What is a Ni MH battery?

NIMH (Nickel-Metal Hydride) is a rechargeable battery, commonly found in household appliances, hand tools, and vehicles. Composed of nickel and hydrogen ions, it offers a higher energy density than nickel-cadmium batteries, does not exhibit a "memory effect," and is relatively environmentally friendly and easily recyclable.

NIMH batteries can be categorized based on their discharge characteristics: low-temperature NiMH batteries, high-rate NiMH batteries, wide-temperature NiMH batteries, and conventional NiMH batteries. Each type has different applications.

1. Low-temperature NiMH Batteries

Low-temperature NiMH batteries offer superior charge and discharge performance and longevity compared to other batteries in low-temperature environments. Therefore, they are often used in electronic devices operating in low-temperature environments.

2. High-rate NiMH Batteries

High-rate NiMH batteries support discharge currents several times or even dozens of times higher, offering high-power, stable discharge capabilities. Therefore, they are often used in applications requiring high current discharge at a certain voltage level.

3. Wide-Temperature NiMH Batteries

Wide-temperature NiMH batteries can operate in temperatures ranging from -40°C to 80°C. They are particularly suitable for use in harsh environments where high current discharge is not required. For example, the battery used in the vehicle's T-BOX is a wide-temperature NiMH battery. This battery offers excellent performance and can operate normally in harsh environments. The reason for such stringent battery performance requirements is that the vehicle's T-BOX functions as a vital device, much like an airplane's black box. It automatically sends a distress signal after a vehicle accident, allowing rescuers to quickly locate the accident site and maximize the effectiveness of the rescue effort.

4. Conventional NiMH Batteries

Conventional NiMH batteries are commonly found in consumer electronics, such as AAA 7 and AA5 batteries, and are often used in remote controls and similar products.

NiMH batteries have varying performance and reliability requirements in different applications. Therefore, they must undergo rigorous testing during production and R&D to ensure that battery capacity, cycle life, rate capability, and temperature characteristics meet standards. Acey New Energy specializes in the development and manufacture of battery aging machine for lithium, lead-acid, NiMH, and NiCd batteries, providing battery companies with high-precision, intelligent testing solutions.
