Do you know the steps and process flow of button battery production

Feb 18, 2022

Button cell (buttoncell) is also called a coin cell. In terms of appearance, it refers to a battery with a size like a small button. Generally speaking, the diameter is larger and the thickness is thinner. The corresponding battery classifications include cylindrical battery, pouch battery, prismatic battery.

Here are the step and process of coin cell:

battery preparation:

1. Preparation of active materials by rotary kiln sintering

2. Mix and grind the prepared materials

3. Vacuum stirring the prepared positive and negative electrode mixture

4. Use a viscometer to measure the viscosity of the slurry when the coating effect is better, and record it so that the battery slurry can be adjusted to this viscosity in the next experiment

5. Use a slurry filter device to filter out various hard particles with a particle size of not less than 124 microns in the slurry

6. The positive and negative electrode materials are respectively coated on the current collector and dried

7. Roll the dried positive and negative substrates to reduce the thickness and increase the density.

8. Move the pole piece into the drying box for further drying

battery packaging

9. Cut the positive and negative electrode sheets and separator paper into small circles with the specified diameter

10. Move the cut pole piece, separator paper, electrolyte, battery case and other accessories into the glove box (water oxygen content should be less than 11PPM)

11. Assemble the batteries in the order of stacking from bottom to top and inject the electrolyte: negative electrode shell > flat pad + appropriate amount of electrolyte > metal lithium sheet + appropriate amount of electrolyte > one layer of separator paper + appropriate amount of electrolyte > positive electrode + appropriate amount of electrolysis Liquid>Flat pad+Appropriate amount of electrolyte>Shrapnel>Positive shell

12. Encapsulate the battery on the encapsulation machine

battery test

13. Use a battery analyzer to test the battery capacity and cycle aging

14. Use an internal resistance tester to measure the internal resistance of the battery

The battery shells of the commonly used button batteries are CR2032, CR2025, CR2016, etc., C stands for the button battery system, and R stands for the round shape of the battery. The first two digits are the diameter (unit mm), and the last two digits are the thickness (unit 0.1mm), whichever is closer to the two. For example, the approximate size of CR2032 is 20mm in diameter and 3.2mm in thickness.

ACEY provides the whole line of coin cell lab equipment.
