The role of planetary mixer in lithium battery homogenization process

     The main purpose of slurry dispersion of lithium ion batteries is to uniformly disperse active materials, conductive agents, binders, etc. in a solvent according to a certain mass ratio to form a stable slurry with a certain viscosity, which is used for the coating of pole pieces. The purpose of the lithium-ion battery pulping process is to prepare the film for production. The requirements of the pole piece for the ideal slurry: 

1. The active material particles are fine and uniformly dispersed without agglomeration, the conductive agent particles form a thin layer and dispersed into a conductive network, and a large number of active material particles are interlocked and connected on the current collector. 

2. The particles of the active material are small, which makes the battery have a high current density.\


      At present, the mainstream homogenizing equipment used by lithium-ion battery manufacturers is a double planetary mixer. The double planetary mixer used in the lithium battery industry, also called PD mixer, is equipped with a low-speed stirring part Planet and a high-speed dispersing part disper. The low-speed stirring components are two bent-frame stirring paddles, driven by planetary gears. The paddle rotates when it rotates, so that the material moves up and down, left and right, so as to achieve the ideal mixing effect in a short time. The high-speed dispersing part is generally a toothed dispersing disc, which revolves with the planet carrier and rotates at a high speed at the same time, so that the material is strongly sheared and dispersed. Its effect is several times that of ordinary mixers. The dispersion part is divided into monodisperse shaft and double dispersion shaft. Dispersion axis.


    The preparation of slurries in twin planetary mixers often utilizes shear forces generated by hydrodynamics, which are governed by flow shear rate, cluster cross-sectional area, and hydrodynamic viscosity. The preparation of the slurry generally involves two processes: the breakup of the clusters and the reorganization of the suspended aggregates.
