What are the important materials for lithium battery packs?
June 23 , 2021Introduction to the basic structure of lithium battery pack:
Important materials: positive electrode, negative electrode, electrolyte, separator
Structure: round, square; laminated, winding
Form: polymer (soft packaging), liquid lithium ion (steel shell)
positive electrode
Cathode materials account for 30%-40% of the cost of lithium batteries, which directly affect the energy density and performance of lithium battery packs.
negative electrode
The negative electrode material needs to be composed of a material with a lower potential relative to the lithium electrode, and has a high specific capacity and good charge-discharge reversibility, so as to maintain good size and mechanical stability during the lithium insertion process.
Electrolyte
The electrolyte serves the purpose of transporting charge between the positive and negative electrodes, which affects the energy density, power density, wide temperature application, cycle life, safety performance and other factors of the lithium battery pack.
Diaphragm
The pore diameter of the diaphragm needs to meet good ion permeability, strong liquid absorption and moisturizing ability, and maintain ion conductivity; at the same time, it has electronic insulation to achieve the mechanical isolation between the positive and negative electrodes. In addition, it should have sufficient puncture strength and stretch Mechanical properties such as strength, corrosion resistance and sufficient electrochemical stability.
Currently, the more commonly used materials for lithium battery packs are lithium cobalt oxide, lithium nickel oxide and lithium manganate. The most used material is lithium cobalt oxide, which has good cycle performance and is convenient to manufacture. The disadvantage is that the cobalt compound is more expensive.
