Why Should Lithium Battery Pack Go Through Aging Test



Why should lithium battery pack be aging tested? The activation stage of lithium battery pack includes precharge, formation, aging, constant volume and other stages. The aging system has two main factors affecting the performance of lithium battery pack, namely aging temperature and aging time. In addition, it is also important whether the battery is in a sealed or open state during aging.

Aging generally refers to the placement after the first charging after the completion of battery assembly and injection. It can have normal temperature aging or high temperature aging. The normal temperature aging temperature is 25 degrees, and the high temperature aging is different in different factories, some are 38 degrees and some are 45 degrees. First, it can make the electrolyte soak better, which is conducive to the stability of lithium battery pack performance;


Second, after aging, the active substances in the positive and negative materials can accelerate the progress of some side effects, such as gas production, electrolyte decomposition, etc., so that the electrochemical performance of lithium battery pack can quickly reach stability;


Third is to screen the consistency of lithium battery pack after aging for a period of time. After formation, the voltage of the cell is unstable, and its measured value will deviate from the actual value. The voltage and internal resistance of the aged cell are more stable, which is convenient for screening batteries with high consistency.


The performance of the battery after high-temperature aging is more stable. Most lithium battery manufacturers adopt the high-temperature aging operation mode in the production process, aging at 45~50 ℃ for 1~3 days, and then shelve at room temperature. After high-temperature aging, the potential adverse phenomena of batteries will be exposed: such as voltage changes, thickness changes, and internal resistance changes are all comprehensive indicators that directly test the safety and electrochemical performance of these batteries.
